Activity Fee Information

Each year Academy students are charged a fee that is used to fund the operations and trips of the DMCA grade level cohorts. A student activity fee makes it possible for our Academy to do far more than the minimal funding which WCPSS provides on a yearly basis. Since community is a value that stands paramount in a Career Academy structure, most of the funding provided from the county level is used to pay for teacher substitutes so that our grade level teachers can participate in field trips and workshops alongside their students. As a result of this structure, students get to know their teachers in a more holistic fashion as compared to the traditional nature of traditional school. 

DMCA activity fee is communicated to parents and students. Parents return payment in the form of  check or money order (cashiers check) sealed envelope and the funds are then handed over to our Advisory Board Treasurer who deposits the monies into the DMCA bank account. Payment should be made to Millbrook DMCA.


Due to the nature of the Senior year, the completion of the Career Academy Internship, and the process of applying to college, yearly field trips for the Senior cohort are not outlined within this fee. While trips might arise, they are normally smaller in nature and are not cohort-wide. Such trips are interest based and could include an industrial tour of interest for a small group of students. If, after the freshman year, a student needs a new Academy Polo, they need only request one from the Academy Coordinator. Students grow and it is possible that they might outgrow their polo from freshman year. Students are expected to wear the Academy Polo on Academy Field Trips.


While the details of fund allocation may change slightly dependent upon the variations in costs of services and products from year to year, the normal breakdown for each grade level cohort is as follows $45.00:

Instances of financial need will not prevent a student from participation in a Career Academy Activity. However any parent in this situation should contact Mrs. Kaushik by phone or email at 919-850-8787 ext 21420 or dkaushik@wcpss.net and appropriate arrangements will be made.
